Proof that Rap music inhibits the cortical motor skills required to perform intense mental and physical tasks.
This research study was performed by myself on May 3, 2008 at approximately 12 am in Young Street Ave Deli. Subject involved were three healthy adult males with mild exposure to ethanol containing beverages. Participation by subjects was voluntary and informed consent was obtained on inception of said research study. Effects were measured and determined by how many of other subjects billiard balls were knocked into each pocket, while attempting to protect one’s one billiard balls. Each subject started with 5 billiard balls. And last subject remaining was determined to be the most successful in completion of tasks. At the beginning of trials, subject “S” started performing admirably in protecting said subjects billiard balls while pocketing opponents billiard balls. Bon Jovi “Living on a Prayer” was playing in the background. Suddenly subject “A” and subject “T” started protecting their billiard balls while dropping subject “S” assigned balls into the pockets. Subject “S” also started making repeated errors and showed signs of agitation and inability to focus. It was noted that Flo Rider’s “Low” was being played in background. Subject “S” continued showing signs of agitation and increased frustration correlating to increased errors executed for the duration of the next 30 min (or two games); the whole time Dirty South Hip Hop (operating at a speed of 140 - 160 bpm with heavy use of snares and high hats) was being played in background. After 30 min, music was changed to The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”. Subject “S” performance improved dramatically after change in music occurred. Within one turn, subject “S” placed 4 of competitors balls in various pockets, as well as prevented opponent any chance of making any shot. Over the time of the next three songs (all Rock) Subject “S” proceeded to complete the next two games and win overall.
Discussion: This study conclusively shows that the use of rap music (especially the style dubbed “Dirty South”) inhibits cortical motor function as well as ability to focus on intense mental tasks. Furthermore it also intensifies subjects agitation and frustration preventing any sort of control over metal status leading to subject being intractable and difficult, Whereas in the presence of Rock music, subject noticeably calmed down, stopped having homicidal thoughts, drugs, gang banging, and pimp slapping hoes who insist on steppin’ outta line. Subject also was able to focus on tasks at hand and enhance subjects already high level of cognitive ability while maintaining a calm composure with minimal emotion.
